This mission was going to be a green-coded walk in the park compared to what Alex had recently gotten himself into on Birch Road. A nice, safe mission that wouldn't need him straying very far from the wall and it involved a cat, so what could be better than that? Heck, he might not even come within ten metres of a walker with the Defense guys manning the walls. Alex had a bit of an over-idealized conception of the Defense faction; in his head most of them were these muscled men, tanned from being under the sun day after day on the barricades. A few of them probably were just that, but, of course, not all of them. Sadly.
Just in case, Alex had brought his bow and quiver of arrows along for the ride anyway. It never hurt to be too cautious. No cigarettes today though; he'd smoked the entire pack on his adventure outside the other day and he was still saving his pennies for another carton. Such an expensive habit which he had no intention of kicking. In fact, he wouldn't be surprised if he spent the reward for this mission on a packet. Kinda sad that he'd be spending some girl's savings on his vice but, yeah, he sorta chose to ignore that.
The day was a bit on the chilly side today - the sky had clouded over and only time would tell if it'd rain - so Alex was wearing a thin jacket over a long-sleeved shirt and a pair of his scruffier jeans, the ones he didn't mind getting dirty. The young man rubbed his hands together and blew into them, stamping his feet too as he waited for his partner for this mission. The green handkerchief his faction was instructed to wear was tied into the bottom of his braid like a hair tie, swinging gently with every movement he made.
Alex was waiting by the gate for them, inside the settlement of course, stealing sneaky glances at the sentries on the gates. There wasn't really anything up there that caught his interest though, just a couple of guys that were probably old enough to be his father and a younger lady with a 'no mess' vibe to her who were all in charge of opening and closing the gates to people who wore handkerchiefs.
Stuffing his hands deep into his jacket pockets and burrowing his chin into the fabric, Alex turned around and kept his eyes open for his possible mission companion.
